Most organisations accept that sustainability matters, but struggle to turn it into action. Energy is managed by facilities, water by operations, waste by a contractor and procurement by finance, with no shared picture of how much is used, what it costs or where the biggest savings lie. Data is incomplete, targets are announced without a baseline, and initiatives are small and disconnected. Meanwhile, customers, investors, regulators and national sustainability agendas expect measurable progress.

This programme connects the principles of sustainability to practical resource management. It moves through five stages: understanding sustainability and its business case; understanding ecosystems, biodiversity and the resources the business depends on; measuring and prioritising resource use; improving energy, water, materials and waste performance; and embedding sustainability in governance, procurement and reporting.

Built on recognised practice. The programme references widely used frameworks and standards, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the triple bottom line concept, ISO 14001 for environmental management, ISO 50001 for energy management, ISO 46001 for water efficiency management, ISO 59004 on circular economy principles, ISO 20400 on sustainable procurement, the GHG Protocol and the GRI Standards. They are used as practical tools, not as compliance checklists.

Decisions this programme improves. Which resources and sites to prioritise; how to set a baseline and realistic targets; which efficiency and circular economy measures to fund first; how to include resource and life-cycle costs in investment and purchasing decisions; which management system elements the organisation needs; and what to report to management and stakeholders.

How it is delivered. Twenty hours across five sessions, built around one running case: an organisation with offices, a warehouse and a production or service site preparing its first resource efficiency plan. Participants build a resource baseline, identify hotspots, assess improvement options with simple cost and payback calculations, and present a prioritised plan to management.
