Strategies for Effective Exhibition Participation
Exhibitions are expensive, yet many organisations book a stand, send whoever is available and return with a pile of business cards and no measurable result. This programme gives marketing, business development and events teams a practical method to decide which shows to attend, set measurable objectives, run an effective stand and convert contacts into business.
Exhibition participation is often decided by habit or by the event organiser's sales call. Objectives are vague, the stand is designed around the brand rather than the visitor, staff are not briefed or trained, and there is no system for capturing and qualifying leads. After the show, follow-up is slow, results are not measured, and the next decision to exhibit is made on the same basis as the last.
This programme follows the full exhibition cycle. It moves through five stages: deciding whether and where to exhibit, setting measurable objectives and a budget, planning the stand, promotion and logistics, managing the stand and visitor conversations during the show, and following up, measuring return and capturing lessons for the next event.
Built on recognised practice. The programme draws on established exhibition and event marketing practice, including objective setting and evaluation models, lead qualification methods and cost per lead and return on objectives analysis. It references ISO 20121 for sustainable event management and data protection requirements, such as the EU GDPR and national personal data protection laws, for handling visitor data.
Decisions this programme improves. Which exhibitions to attend and at what level; what the stand should achieve and how success will be measured; how to allocate the budget between space, stand, promotion and hospitality; who should staff the stand; and whether to repeat, change or drop an event next year.
How it is delivered. Twenty hours across five sessions, built around one running case: an organisation preparing for a major international trade exhibition. Participants build an event selection scorecard, an objectives and budget plan, a stand staffing brief, a lead capture process and an evaluation report.
In-house option. For organisations, the programme can be tailored to your own exhibition calendar, sector, brand guidelines and CRM, and delivered for marketing, sales and stand staff together before a major event.
